This collar style necklace uses an historic gem - Carnelian in the shape of bars - interspersed with kite-shaped Bumble Bee Jasper and finished with seed beads and a sterling silver clasp.
Bumble Bee Jasper is a one-locational stone mined in Indonesia, from the side of a volcano. it gets its vivid colours from sulfur and arsenic compounds (don't worry -it is safe to wear- but licking it is not advised!)
Carnelian has been used for personal adornment since Neolithic times. It is a gem mentioned in the Bible, carved into scarabs by the ancient Egyptians and Phoenicians and a favourite of the Romans for carving signet or seal rings. Unsurprisingly, it has never really fallen out of favour.
The necklace is 16" long with a 2” extender chain
